ST. THERESA'S PARISH
RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULT
OVERVIEW
The
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is an opportunity, for those interested,
to inquire about the Roman Catholic Church. It is directed to those who are not
Catholics but wish to know more about this faith community. It's also directed
to Catholics who are returning to practice their faith or who may not have been
confirmed.
PROCESS
The process is intended to be a journey
of faith through which participants are provided an opportunity to share their
views and beliefs with others and thus learn from one another. Participants
are encouraged to enroll in the ALPHA course offered by the parish (from September
22nd to December 1st) and thus join others in their journey of faith. RCIA participants
will also meet as a group about once a month until Easter for prayer and explore
subjects of interest to them. In addition RCIA participants will meet each
Sunday beginning with the first Sunday of Advent and until Easter to reflect on
the liturgical readings for that week and to discuss various subjects. After
Christmas RCIA participants will further explore the Catholic Faith Traditions
by participating in an eight week Adult Formation Initiative offered by the parish
and focusing on the "Our Father". The process will culminate with
the celebration of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. PARTICIPANTS
The
participants are: A. INQUIRERS: Those inquiring about the
Roman Catholic Church and those who are returning to practice their faith or seeking
confirmation. B. SPONSORS: Those accepting to accompany the
inquirers on their faith journey. Preferably each inquirer is accompanied by a
personal sponsor and a community sponsor. C. CATECHISTS:
The pastor and members of St. Theresa's Parish who accept to coordinate
and guide the process and participate in the discussions by sharing their
faith experience.
CONTACT
Inquirers or those interested in being sponsors or catechists are invited to call
the Rectory at 444-6070 for more information.
